NILD Services
After a student completes the Psychological-Educational testing battery, Kim will evaluate the results to determine if they are a candidate for NILD. Qualifying students will participate in a non-tutorial, individualized approach, in which cognitive deficits are targeted with prescriptive strategies. Interactive language and mediation are used to promote new neurological pathways.
Rewire Program
The Rewire: Building Better Thinking program is based on the research of Dr. Feuerstein and the concept of neuroplasticity. That simply means our intelligence and thinking abilities are not permanently fixed. Cognitive growth isn't just for children. The brain can rewire and continue to heal and become stronger throughout your entire lifespan. Whether you're 8 or 80, the goal is the same, we help children, teens and adults rewire their brain.
Educational Screening
For children who may be struggling in school, an educational screening is a great first step. Our team will individually assess your student in 10 different areas, as well as conduct a GORT 5-Gray Oral Reading Tests and PASS: Phonological Skills Survey. After the screening, we will provide you with an individualized report and next steps for your student’s success.
Academic Testing
Kim is able to administer the Woodcock-Johnson IV Tests of Achievement and GORT (Gray Oral Reading Tests). These are great resources to assess your student’s current academic level.
NILD FAQs
What is NILD?
NILD (National Institute for Learning Development) Educational Therapy is an individualized, non-tutorial therapy designed to "address the underlying causes of learning difficulties rather than simply treating the symptoms." The key components of NILD are academics, perception, cognition, and emotion - creating a holistic therapy designed to help children "think, reason, and process information," and "develop tools for independent learning in the classroom and in life."
Who does NILD benefit?
NILD benefits children who may have a diagnosable learning disability and struggle with academics. Areas of common struggle include (but are not limited to):
School performance
Poor spelling
Illegible handwriting
Attention issues and executive function struggles
Difficulty with verbal or written expression
Challenges specifically with reading and/or math
How do I know my child will benefit?
Once your child has been tested by a licensed educational psychologist (referrals available upon request) we will conference about the results, determine your child's best strategies for success, and discuss the way forward.
